Over the last few years, you would have heard in the news about people from all over Britain and the world, uprooting themselves and relocating to Birmingham. Besides being a vibrant metropolitan city, we know there's other reasons why people are moving here and at Wolfs have been keeping our ears pressed to the ground and an eye on the papers, as we see waves of people relocating to Birmingham.
As one of Birmingham's leading estate agents and property management agents, we like to know about people a flocking to our city and what bring them here. In this blog, we do just that as we look at why people are leaving their homes and relocating to our city, and the opportunities it provides.
London is London
London, our dear capital, is an exceedingly expensive city to live in and it is spreading outwards into its boroughs. People are finding it difficult life, let alone to rent or own a home at a fair and honest price. Essentially, London is being London.
London has always been expensive. Even in Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, Holmes and Watson had to share a flat together because of how expensive London was to live alone. You'd think the world's first and greatest consulting detective could afford a place by himself but apparently not. London has always been expensive but it is only in recent years, Londoners have been pushed to their limits financially and cannot take no more.
It is because of the high cost of living and property prices, we see people relocating to Birmingham, either finding new jobs or simply commuting. This is a possibility because of our next point, location.
Location, Location, Location
It is an awful cliche but that's because it's true, location is everything and Birmingham is well located. In the centre of the country, we find ourselves well connected to all corners of Britain.
Depending on the time of day, you can take a train from Birmingham New Street to London and arrive in between an hour and a half to two hours. With the new H2 Rail, that time is set to reduce dramatically. Needless to say, for Londoners who are relocating to Birmingham and still working in the capital, commuting to London is doable.
Business is Booming
As well as being locating in the heart of the country, Birmingham is an attractive place to work due to our economic growth over the past few years. We have seen a large flux of investment flow into our city and has translated into economic growth.
Large corporations, such as HSBC who are relocating over 2,000 staff, are moving their corporate headquarters to Birmingham due to its prime location and these corporate moves are set to inflate our economy, and bring more jobs as well as talented professionals to our city.
The Property Gold Rush
Of course, you cannot talk about growth in Birmingham without talking about property. The government's Buy to Let scheme was first tested here in Birmingham and has been highly popular. Across the country, this has led to low-interest rates that are expected to stay low, mortgage lenders are becoming competitive and has led to the rise of the amateur landlord.
From veteran landlords to the growing number of amateur landlords, they've set their sights on Birmingham, due to its prime geographical location in the country, economic growth and the fact Birmingham is a vibrant metropolis.
Needless to say, there is no shortage of reasons to why people are relocating to Birmingham.
